There is so much to do and experience in this unique dual world heritage site!

Gifted to the people of New Zealand in 1887 by Te Heuheu Tukino IV (Horonuku), the paramount chief of Ngati Tuwhareto, Tongariro was the first national park to be recognised in New Zealand and the fourth in the world.  Recognising the park's important Maori cultural and spiritual associations as well as its outstanding volcanic features, the Park was awarded dual World Heritage status in 1993.

Unlike any other location in New Zealand, Tongariro National Park is a blinding mix of otherworld enchantment and breathtaking reality.

There are walks and treks you'll write home about such as the famous Tongariro Crossing, Mountain Biking which will challenge and surprise you, Mountaineering and Climbing which will present breath taking scenery and a touch of Hollywood status with Lord of The Rings tours.
