Finding The Park

National Park Village is located near the base of Mt Ruapehu, at the intersection of State Highway 4 & State Highway 47 on the volcanic plateau.

FROM AUCKLAND: head in the direction of Otorohanga, Te Kuiti and through Taumarunui. The Park is on your right as you enter National Park on the corner of Millar St and State Highway 4.

FROM WELLINGTON: head north to Fielding and Waiouru where you turn off through Ohakune to reach State Highway 4. The Park is on your left as you enter National Park on the corner of
Millar St and State Highway 4.

FROM TAUPO: Travel south to Turangi before turning onto State Highway 41 to cross Tongariro National Park.  The Park is virtually opposite (on the right) of the intersection of Highway 4and SH47

About National Park

The National Park Village is situated on the edge of Tongariro National Park, which is New Zealand’s oldest National Park and a dual World Heritage area. This was the fourth National Park to be established in the world, when Te Heuheu Tukino IV, then the chief of Ngati Tuwharetoa gifted the sacred peaks to the nation in 1887.  More....


The Tongariro National Park is the home of New Zealand’s both Whakapapa and Turoa ski fields. As well as snow sports the National Park and surrounding areas provide the perfect backdrop for mountain biking, white water rafting, kayaking, hiking, quad biking, rock climbing, caving, jet boat riding, trout fishing or relaxing in thermal springs.
