Whakapapa

Whakapapa, New Zealands’ largest developed ski area, is the closest to The Park hostel with regular shuttles leaving right outside the front door.

Whakapapa boasts all services and amenities that you would expect to find at any international ski area. Happy Valley is a complete separate learners area and the Knoll Ridge Chalet, at 2,020 metres above sea level, is the highest café in New Zealand! On a clear day there are spectacular views of Mt Ruapehus summit, the World Heritage listed Tongariro National Park and the central North Island. Its north facing basin, many steep faces, slopes and gullies offer an adventure playground for those more intermdiate and advanced skiers and boarders looking for variety and challenge.

All ski passes are valid at both Whakapapa and nearby Turoa skifields!

Popular annual events at Whakapapa include the G Force Mini X Games, Pepsi Fireworks Spectacular, and the Mt Ruapehu Spring Festival.
