Tongariro Alpine Crossing

The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is a 7-8 hour trek crossing over Mt Tongariro, from alpine meadows to the mountain summit, the landscape consists of craters, scattered pumice, active volcanoes, mountain springs, lava flows, emerald lakes, piles of scoria and statue-like mounds of volcanic desert.

Rated as one of the best one day walks in New Zealand it is an incredibly popular walk for locals and visitors alike. In summer (November to April) The Crossing can be done without a guide, however the weather can be very changable it is advised you pack warm clothing. Our staff are able to advise on what you will need for the trek. In winter you must have a guide and hire equipment such as ice axes and crampons due to the amount of snow Mt Tongariro recieves in the winter months.

The Park offers transport to the start of the Crossing and pick up at the other end of the walk.
